Communiqué de presse d’Euromaïdan Paris en français et en anglais.
Les fausses concessions du Président Ianoukovitch.
Après plus de deux mois de contestation et de confrontations parfois sanglantes, le pouvoir ukrainien incarné par Viktor Ianoukovitch semble peu à peu céder. Malgré la démission du premier Ministre Mykola Azarov et le vote en faveur de l’abrogation des lois liberticides votées le 16 janvier dernier, les manifestants et l’opposition, restent mobilisés.
Un coup de théâtre est survenu avec la subite hospitalisation de Ianoukovich qui fait craindre à l’opposition un nouveau coup de bluff destiné à gagner du temps. En demandant aux manifestants de quitter sous 15 jours les bâtiments administratifs occupés contre la libération des prisonniers, le Président Ianoukovitch tente une nouvelle fois de faire du chantage, sans pour autant répondre aux attentes des Ukrainiens qui réclament le changement du système corrompu.
Par ailleurs, la démission du premier ministre Azarov, perçue par certains comme un « geste » du gouvernement envers les manifestants ne semble pas pouvoir apaiser la situation. Le porte-parole du Président, le premier ministre par intérim Serhiy Arbouzov – homme fidèle au Parti des Régions – a été mis en cause, tout comme son prédécesseur, dans des affaires de corruption.
D’après l’opposition, « les gestes d’apaisement » de Viktor Ianoukovitch restent insuffisants et ne garantissent en rien le respect des engagements pris par ce dernier. D’autant plus que malgré la trêve, des manifestants se font toujours enlever et torturer par des hommes de mains payés par le gouvernement et la majorité des Ukrainiens ne croit plus aux promesses du Président qui tente à tout prix de garder le pouvoir.
Les tentatives du pouvoir de régler cette crise par la force ont conduit à la radicalisation de certains manifestants dont le gouvernement se sert pour discréditer l’image du mouvement, notamment à l’étranger. La Communauté Ukrainienne en France tient à souligner que ces mouvements extrémistes ne sont pas représentatifs de la population Ukrainienne dans son ensemble. Les rabbins ainsi que les prêtres orthodoxes et catholiques présents sur Maïdan ne font pas état de comportements antisémites et soutiennent le peuple Ukrainien dans leur combat pour la démocratie. Il parait également important de souligner que de nombreux messages de soutien en faveur des manifestants sont parvenus d’Israël, qui dénonce les violences commises par les Berkouts, en ce sens où elles rappellent les pires instants de l’Histoire.
Plus que jamais solidaire avec les revendications des manifestants dans leur lutte contre la corruption et pour la souveraineté de l’Ukraine, la Communauté Ukrainienne de France appelle tous les médias à se joindre à notre manifestation ce dimanche 2 février 2014 de 12h à 13H00 dans le Square Taras Chevchenko 186 Bd St Germain Paris 06.

The phoney concessions of President Yanukovych
After over two months of protests and often bloody confrontations, those in power in Ukraine and Viktor Yanukovych in particular have seemed to gradually give ground. Despite the resignation of Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and the vote to scrap the repressive laws of January 16th, protesters and the opposition alike remain mobilised.
We witnessed a new coup de théâtre with the sudden hospitalisation of Yanukovych, which provoked fears of new media manipulation aimed at winning time. In demanding that protesters leave the occupied administrative buildings within 15 days in exchange for the liberation of prisoners, President Yanukovych attempted to blackmail the opposition once again, without responding to the basic demands of the Ukrainian people who cry out for changes to the corrupt system.
In addition, the resignation of Prime Minister Azarov, perceived by some as a « gesture » of the government towards the protesters, does not seem to have been able to calm the situation. The President’s spokesman – Interim Prime Minister Serhiy Arbuzov, faithful member of the Party of Regions – has been implicated in corruption, just like his predecessor.
In the opposition’s view, these « calming gestures » by Viktor Yanukovych remain insufficient and do not at all guarantee the respect of commitments made by the President. What is more, despite the truce, protesters continue to be kidnapped and tortured by henchmen paid by the government and the majority of Ukrainans no longer believe the promises of a President ready to do anything to cling to power.
The regime’s attempts to put an end to this crisis through brute force has radicalised certain protesters which the government has sought to use to discredit the movement more generally, especially abroad. The Ukrainian community in France wishes to underline that these extremist movements do not represent the Ukrainian population more generally. The rabbis and catholic and orthodox priests on the Maidan do not behave in an antisemitic fashion and support the Ukrainian people in their fight for democracy. It is also important to underline that numerous messages of support for the protesters have come from Israel, which denounces the violence committed by the Berkut (riot police) which remind us of the darkest moments of our history.
In greater solidarity than ever with the demands of the protesters in their struggle against corruption and for the sovereignty of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Community of France calls on all media outlets to join our protest this Sunday 2 February 2014 from 12.00 to 13.00 at Square Taras Chevchenko, 186 Bd St Germain Paris 06.
