Violences du 18/19 février à Kyiv/Kiev

Le 18 février, le gouvernement Ukrainien a provoqué une nouvelle vague d’indignation, après avoir refusé d’enregistrer la requête de l’opposition demandant le retour à la Constitution de 2004 ayant pour but de rétablir l’équilibre des pouvoirs.

Des incidents ont éclaté alors que le cortège des manifestants forçait un barrage de la police anti-émeute près du Parlement ukrainien à Kyiv/Kiev. Les derniers communiqués font état d’au moins vingt cinq morts et plus de mille blessés dont certains sont à l’heure actuelle dans un état critique.

Les forces spéciales ont tiré à balles réelles sur les manifestants, qui ont été contraints de se replier et se sont donc fait assiéger sur la place de l’Indépendance (Maïdan). Nous nous attendons à une dispersion violente et définitive des manifestations.

D’après la députée de l’opposition Lessya Orobets, les négociations ont été un véritable piège organisé par Ianoukovitch (le président ukrainien) et ses bras droits qui n’avaient aucune intention de céder leurs positions.

« Les prétendues négociations pacifiques n’étaient qu’un piège bien planifié. Dans le but de gagner du temps et de préparer une opération de force. Dès le début, Ianoukovitch n’avait absolument aucune intention de faire des concessions. Toutes les pirouettes autour du processus politique, toutes les négociations dans les coulisses sur les amendements à la Constitution, n’avaient qu’un seul but: piéger les manifestants. Ce massacre soigneusement planifié vise à détruire toute trace de la démocratie en Ukraine. Ses auteurs veulent mettre la peur dans les cœurs des Ukrainiens en étouffant toute pensée à défendre leurs droits à jamais. » Donnant l’ordre de tirer dans la foule à balles réelles, le gouvernement Ukrainien a violé la trêve, consolidée par le geste symbolique des manifestants qui avaient libéré des bâtiments publics depuis dimanche dernier afin de montrer leur volonté de trouver une sortie de crise pacifique.

Pour commémorer les morts, le Collectif EuroMaïdan France organise une veillée mercredi 19 février à 18h00 à l’Eglise Greco-Catholique ukrainienne au 186 boulevard Saint-Germain à Paris.

Une manifestation de soutien au peuple Ukrainien qui meurt pour défendre la démocratie en Ukraine, sera organisée le jeudi 20 février à 17h 30 près du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères.

Violent clashes 18/19 February in Kyiv/Kiev

18 February saw the Ukrainian government provoke a new wave of indignation, after having refused to register the opposition’s bill in Parliament which provided for a return to the 2004 constitution with the goal to reestablish the balance of powers.

The incidents of the 18th and 19th began with a procession of protesters attempting to break through a riot police line near the Ukrainian Parliament in Kyiv/Kiev. The latest figures show that at least 25 people have lost their lives and over a thousand are injured, of which several are currently in a critical state.

Special forces fired on the protesters with real bullets and forced them to retreat and take up position on Independence Square (Maidan) where they were then surrounded. We are expecting more violent attempts to disperse the crowds once and for all.

According to opposition Member of Parliament Lesya Orobets, the negotiations were a trap organised by Yanukovych (the Ukrainian president) and his allies, who had no intention of giving ground on their positions.

« The so-called peaceful negotiations were nothing more than a well-planned trap, with the goal of gaining time and preparing a violent police operation. From the outset, Yanukovych had no intention to make concessions. All the pirouettes around the political process, all of the backdoor negotiations on amendments to the Constitution, had only one goal: to trick the protesters. This carefully planned massacre aims to destroy any traces of democracy in Ukraine. Its perpetrators want to install fear in the hearts of Ukrainians by suffocating any idea that they could ever defend their rights. » Giving the order to shoot into the crowd with real bullets, the Ukrainian government violated the truce, consolidated by the symbolic gesture of protesters who left public buildings last Sunday to show their willingness to find a solution to the political crisis.

To commemorate the dead, the EuroMaidan France Collective is organising a vigil Wednesday 19 February at 18.00 at the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, 186 boulevard Saint-Germain, in Paris.

A protest in support of the Ukrainian people who are dying to defend democracy in Ukraine will be organised Thursday 20 February at 17.30 near the French Foreign Ministry.
